Seville smash Kinglake

Kinglake Memorial Oval, Kinglake Central.

Former Collingwood AFL player (current coach of Northern Blues) stepped into the role of Seville full-forward kicking eight goals with a best on ground performance that Kinglake simply couldn’t match.

Despite doubling Seville’s centre clearance rate twelve to six in the opening quarter Kinglake couldn’t make use of the clearances with Seville having ten inside 50s to Kinglake’s seven with Seville 28 points up at quarter time.

Kinglake coach Brad Wilkinson describing the situation at quarter time.

“You boys are flat, you don’t look interested”

“We’re getting the clearances but fumbling…we’ve got to be cleaner through there (centre)”

“We need to rotate more or just be a little bit more (expletive) interested in this game”

Kinglake fired up in second quarter restricting Seville to just four scoring shots and only one Seville goal for the second quarter as Kinglake’ s tackle rate increased to 19. The Lakers started getting inside their forward fifty more often, 15 to just six from Seville with Kinglake also stepping up their defensive pressure and tackle rate.

At half-time Kinglake bought the game within reach with an eight-point margin in Seville’s favour.

The break saw Seville return to playing as they began the match with 15 inside 50s to Kinglake’s six, which the scoreboard made clear as Seville established a four goal lead and had nine scoring shots to to Kinglake’s four.

At three quarter time Kinglake coach Brad Wilkinson told the players

“We’re making too many basic skill errors”

“This is a big show here boys, let’s get smarter around the contests”

“We need to break the game open and move the ball a little bit smarter”

Despite best attempts from the Lakers it wasn’t to be as Seville ran away with the game in the final quarter as Kinglake fell flat, allowing Seville to establish a lead that would be hard to catch.

The Lakers tried hard to reduce the margin in the final quarter but it wasn’t to be with Seville winning by 39 points.
