KFNC raise funds for injured player

KINGLAKE.

On Friday, November 8, 1907 The Evelyn Observer reported about a fundraising concert for an injured footballer.

On Wednesday week there was a fine downpour of rain, 115 points being registered. This rain came opportunely and will do an immense amount of good, especially to the late crops. On Sunday there was another general rainfall 150 points being registered.

The benefit concert recently given here, under the auspices of the Kinglake Football Club realised £6 17s 6d. The expenses were £1 11s 10d, so that a sum of £5 5s 8d will be available for the injured player.

The trophy (presented by Mr. McAuliffe) for the most number of catches taken during the last season’s play of the local cricket club has been won by Mr. William Murphy.

A slight error occurred in the Rifle Club scores in my last report. Instead of the distances being 400, 500, 600 yards as stated for the V.R. medal, it should read: First shoot (7 shots at each range) 200 and 300 yards; 2nd shoot [unknown/obscured text] and 600 yards. Captain John Lawrey has kindly pointed out the mistake, and supplied me with the above figures.

At the weekly meeting of the local Debating Club there was a good attendance of members, Cr. A. Beale being in the chair.

The subject under discussion was “Impromptu Speeches,” and much interest was taken in the various questions submitted.

Much regret is expressed at the removal of Mr. Williams from our district. During the time he has had charge of the Anglican Church here he has done good work and has become deservedly popular.
