Registered sex offender last seen in Mansfield spotted on NSW south coast

Detectives from the Victoria Police Fugitive Taskforce are appealing for information after missing 46-year-old registered  sex offender Christopher Empey was sighted on the NSW south coast in December.

A search for Empey commenced Friday 23 November after he failed to comply with monitoring conditions.

The Bendigo Advertiser reported on 27 November that “police [had] increased patrols in and around the Mansfield area after a GPS bracelet, required to be worn by Empey was located in the Baddiginnie area … “

Police conducted extensive searches in and around the Mansfield area after a GPS bracelet, required to be worn by Empey, was located in the Baddiginnie area.

Investigators believe Empey was riding a yellow 2005 Suzuki DR650 motorcycle registration GD531 at the time before the motorcycle was sold privately in December to a buyer in Nowra, NSW.

Police became aware of the sale after government paperwork was lodged.

Detectives do not believe the buyer is linked to Empey in any way and was unaware of his background when purchasing the vehicle.

It’s not known if Empey has access to a motor vehicle.

Police have re-released an image of Empey in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information about his whereabouts.

Detectives are also releasing an image of him that was captured on CCTV in a Nowra store in December.

Below he appears unshaven and is still wearing the same clothing he absconded in.Christopher20Empey-1.jpg

Police believe it’s possible he sustained an injury.

Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who lives in the Nowra area, or visitors travelling to the region, who may have sighted him.

Investigators are also keen to anyone who has sighted Empey since the sale of the motorcycle and can provide information on his movements or current whereabouts.

Anyone who sights Empey is urged not to approach him but to contact triple zero (000) immediately.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
