Kinglake all out for 59 runs

Kinglake’s First XI faced the Preston Footballers Second XI in a one-day match with the North Metropolitan Cricket Association (NMCA) cancelling last weekend’s fixtures.

The Lakers won the toss and sent Preston in to bat first with Preston 5/148 from 35 overs.

James Edwards was Kinglake’s best bowler taking two wickets with James Gibbs, Eddie O’Hara and Tim Stonehouse taking a wicket each.

Kinglake captain Jason Gaffee was best performer with the bat, making 25 runs from 37 balls in his 51 minutes at the crease.

Kinglake stalwart Ken Aitken was seventh to the crease but was out for duck after facing just three balls, bowled by Preston’s J. Drakopoulos.

NMCA umpire Tony Galea was impressed with the condition of the Kinglake ground, the conduct of Kinglake’s cricketers and club facilities.

“I’ll umpire a game here anytime. [There’s] no sledging, just a friendly game of cricket … the only sledging was among you [Kinglake] guys giving each other some stick

“You have a great ground here with excellent facilities. I’ll umpire here anytime,” Galea said.

Next week, Kinglake play Bundoora Park at C.T. Barling Park (North) before breaking for Christmas. The competition resumes on Saturday, January 6 with a home game against Preston Druids Third XI.
