Murrindindi Shire is currently offering free green waste (lawn clippings, branches et al.) at Resource Recovery Centres -better known as ‘the local tip’ between Saturday, September 30 until Sunday, October 15.
Shire residents (in residential areas) can also burn off from Sunday October 1, until Sunday, October 15, so long as burn piles aren’t larger than a metre by a metre (1m x 1m) and material burnt is no thicker than “three inches” (7.6cm) in diameter.
The restrictions however, do not apply to those in rural-zoned areas, before shire-wide Fire Restrictions begin, which are expected to come into effect earlier than usual this year due to low rainfall conditions throughout the Shire.
The Kinglake Ranges News weather station has recorded very low winter rainfall this year. Data will be published early October.
Residents must only burn dry material(s) and ensure that smoke doesn’t cause nuisance to neighbours.
